IMG_0490DOUGLAS — The Cochise College baseball team split its doubleheader against Scottsdale Community College on Tuesday afternoon.

The Apaches dropped the first game 3-1 before routing the Artichokes in game two, 16-6.

In the early game, Xavier Altamirano took the loss despite striking out six and allowing just four hits, three walks and two earned runs in the full seven innings.

Cochise outhit Scottsdale six to four, but the only run it scored was on a solo home run by Darick Hall in the sixth inning.

In the late game, the Apaches scored five runs in the fourth and piled on seven more in the fifth on the way to the eight-inning victory. Hall earned the win after allowing six runs on six hits while striking out four in 5 1/3 innings.

In the fifth inning, the Apaches scored on a bases-loaded walk by Trey Reineke, a two-run single by Louis Boyd, a passed ball, an RBI single by Hall, another passed ball and a sacrifice fly by Jason Sanez.

Hall went 2 for 4, including a home run, with four RBIs, while Boyd went 4 for 6 with three RBIs.

Cochise is 9-6 overall and 5-3 in Arizona Community College Athletic Conference play heading into home games against Yavapai College on Saturday and Phoenix College on Tuesday.

Both doubleheaders on the Douglas Campus start at noon. Admission is free.
