Did you know that Arizona’s largest market in 2012 was Mexico with $6.3 billion, and that trade supported nearly 711,000 jobs in Arizona, or 22 percent of total jobs?

Southeastern Arizona is an eclectic mix of Old World, Wild West, multiculturalism, high tech, low tech plus mountains, trails, birding and more. The Cochise College Small Business Development Center, the City of Sierra Vista, the Mall at Sierra Vista, the Douglas Mexican Consulate Office, SEAGO, the Sierra Vista Chamber of Commerce and the Sierra Vista Economic Development Foundation have joined together to bring special attention to cross border trade, with emphasis on retail and tourism opportunities.

The first Cross Border Trade and Expo ever held in Sierra Vista is set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27 at the Mall at Sierra Vista.

This free event will dispel rumors, highlight facts and aid in attracting outside tourism specialists, retailers, employers and investors while devoting ample time to elucidate local residents and businesses on why they should consider adding cross border trade to their business plan. In this rich resource environment, attendees will have an opportunity for one-on-one time with providers and decision makers.

For participants who need hotel accommodations, three hotels will offer special discounted rates for Thursday and Friday nights. Ask for the “Cross Border Trade Expo special room rate” when booking to get the discounted rate. Participating hotels are the Windemere Hotel and Conference CenterFairfield Inn and Suites Sierra Vista and Holiday Inn Express Sierra Vista.

Seating is limited and registration by Sept. 25 is required. For more information or to register, contact Rachel Norton at (520) 515-5478 or nortonr@cochise.edu.
