DOUGLAS — The Cochise College baseball team routed Thompson Rivers University of British Columbia in a two-game sweep Friday afternoon.
Cochise won game one 8-1 in seven innings behind a complete game by Jordon West, who struck out seven, walked one and allowed five hits.
At the plate, Louis Boyd went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, including a triple in the third that scored one and a double in the sixth that scored another. Dan Hetzel and Nick Borowski were each 2 for 3, and Sean DeSoto was 1 for 3 with two RBIs.
The Apaches went on to win game two 21-1 in seven innings, scoring four in the first, three more in the third, six in the fifth and eight in the sixth.
Austin Cooper started on the mound for Cochise, allowing a walk and striking out three in three innings.
At the plate, Jason Sanez was 4 for 5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Nate Stepna and Darick Hall were each 2 for 4 with four RBIs. Hall’s two-run home run to right field capped the Apaches’ scoring spree in their final at-bat.
The Apaches are 7-3 on the season and at home Saturday to open conference play against Eastern Arizona College with a noon doubleheader. Admission is free to all regular-season home games.
