DOUGLAS — The Cochise College baseball team split its doubleheader against Yavapai College on Tuesday, winning game one 10-0 in five innings and falling in the second game 11-7.
Kade Wagner led Cochise in the first game, going all five innings on the mound and giving up just three hits and a walk while striking out five. The Apaches scored in all five innings. Charlie Ameer went 2 for 3 with a double and a triple, and Louis Boyd hit a solo home run in the bottom of the second and scored three runs in the game.
In game two, Yavapai jumped on top early with three runs in the first and five more in the third. Cochise worked to close the gap late, with two runs in the sixth on an error and an RBI double by Jackson Overlund, four more in the seventh on a two-run double by Darick Hall, a wild pitch, and a groundout, and one more in the eighth on an RBI single by Boyd.
Cochise is 9-5 overall and 2-2 in conference play so far this season. Next, the Apaches travel to Arizona Western on Saturday and Central Arizona on Tuesday before returning home to the Douglas Campus on Feb. 26 for a noon doubleheader against Vancouver Island. Admission is free to all regular-season home games.
