PHOENIX — The Cochise College baseball team split its doubleheader at Gateway Community College on Tuesday, winning game one 2-0 and dropping the second game 6-4.
Darick Hall pitched the complete-game shutout, striking out eight and allowing just three hits and no walks over seven innings. Cochise scored both runs in the third on a double by Nate Stepna that scored Nick Borowski and Bryan Nunez.
Gateway scored all six runs early in game two, bringing home two in the first, three more in the second and another in the third before the Apaches got on the board with three in the fourth. Nunez’s RBI single scored Charlie Ameer, and Louis Boyd’s single to left plated Adam De La Cruz and Nunez.
Hall was 3 for 5 at the plate with an RBI single in the ninth. On the mound, Borowski went the first five innings and allowed four earned runs on six hits and two walks.
Cochise is 36-10 on the season and 21-5 in conference play heading into Saturday’s game at Eastern Arizona. The Apaches return home Tuesday for a noon doubleheader against Arizona Western. Admission is free to all regular-season home games.
