IMG_0112The Cochise College Lady Apaches fell (0-2) on Saturday, October 17th to Pima Community College.  The game marked the second and final meeting between the two teams this season. The Lady Apaches started the game intent on improving the 1-7 loss in the previous matchup.

It was also Sophomore Day for the Apaches as they honored eight graduating players.  The eight players were Bre Laird, Gaby Morales, Kayla Heath, Caty Gonzalez, Elia Mendoza, Diana Medrano, T’naiha Williams, and Jessica Messer.

The Lady Apaches were able to keep the score at 0-0 until the 22nd minute when Pima would take the 0-1 lead on a long shot from 25 yards out that beat Venecia Alvarez in goal.  The Lady Apaches would continue to battle hard and try to even the score, but they were unable to find the back of the net as the half would conclude 0-1 in favor of the visitors.

Pima would double their lead in the 56th minute on another long-range shot from the right side of the Apache goal. The Apaches continued to play hard and put pressure on Pima to try to get back into the game. The Apaches did threaten the score with a few corner kicks, but they were unable to find the finishing touch.

Pima was awarded a PK in the 80th minute, but Venecia Alvarez was equal to the shot and made an outstanding save to keep the score at 0-2.

The Apaches put in a great team effort to keep the league leaders at bay for most of the game. Cochise will be on the road for the next game as they travel to Glendale CC on Tuesday, October 20th. Kickoff for the game has been moved up to 1pm.
