SIERRA VISTA — The Cochise College Foundation honored 2014-15 scholarship recipients at a dinner and recognition ceremony held Thursday, Sept. 4, in the Student Union of the Sierra Vista Campus.
The foundation has awarded 166 students with 223 scholarships worth $213,500 so far this academic year.
“As you move forward, I hope that you’ll impact the future, that you’ll pay it forward,” said Cochise College President J.D. Rottweiler. “That’s what education, in this human endeavor we are all involved in, is all about.”
This year, in addition to the array of scholarships given annually, the foundation awarded 40 outstanding students who graduated from Cochise County high schools with $1,000 scholarships through the 50th Anniversary Scholars program, which pays homage to the milestone the college is celebrating throughout 2014-15.
The Cochise College Foundation is led by a volunteer board and promotes student success through scholarships, facilities development, and program support. The foundation annually awards more than $300,000 in scholarships to students and $100,000 in program support to the college.
Current and future Cochise College students can apply for scholarships through the foundation annually starting in January. The deadline to apply is typically in late March. Many of these scholarships are not based on family income, but rather on academic potential and major.
