Cochise College will kick off its 50th anniversary festivities on Sept. 22-23 with identical events on the Sierra Vista and Douglas campuses.

On Monday, Sept. 22 in Sierra Vista and Tuesday, Sept. 23 in Douglas:

  • 4 p.m. — Authors’ Signing
  • 6 p.m. — Ceremony
  • 7 p.m. — Twist & Shout: The Definitive Beatles Experience

These Golden Opportunity Celebrations are free and open to the public. Attendees should bring blankets to spread out on the grass at each of the campuses.

The authors’ signing recognizes the published authors who are current or former Cochise College faculty and alumni. The ceremony will unveil the 50th Anniversary Time Capsule Project, sponsored by the campus Student Government Associations, and the Beatles tribute band performances wrap up the festivities.

The full schedule of events for this year’s 50th anniversary celebration is available at www.cochise.edu/50. New activities are continually added as details are finalized. Two events recently added are “An evening with Wilford Brimley,” a fundraiser supporting the Cochise College rodeo program in November, and the Aviation Open House and Fly-in, featuring Elaine Larsen’s jet dragster in March.

The college is also working to establish a Hall of Fame to honor former students, faculty, staff and community leaders. For the inaugural class, nominations will be accepted through December 2014, and the induction ceremony is slated for April 2015.
