His term on the Commission runs from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2027.
According to the AACC’s website, the Commission on Small and Rural Colleges provides insights, guidance and innovative practices to address the needs of rural community colleges. It comprises approximately 24 senior-level administrators in higher education.
“I feel honored and excited about this appointment,” Perey said. “It is a privilege to be recognized and to have the opportunity to contribute to the policy and decision-making process that impacts small and rural colleges across the nation.”
Perey will collaborate with other administrators representing numerous rural community colleges across the United States. “I look forward to bringing valuable insights and advocating for our unique needs and challenges,” he said. “My goal is to help shape policies and initiatives that support our institutions in providing quality education and enhancing our communities.”
The affiliation with AACC’s Commission on Small and Rural Colleges represents a significant opportunity for Cochise College to have a voice in national discussions and decisions affecting rural community colleges. “The college’s needs and challenges will be represented at a national level, potentially leading to improved resources, support, and enhanced opportunities for student success,” explained Dr. Perey. “Additionally, this affiliation can foster greater community engagement and development, as innovative practices and solutions are shared and implemented, benefiting both students and our local communities.” Cochise College strengthens its commitment to student success and community engagement by participating in the Commission.
“Serving on this Commission gives me the chance to support the growth and success of small and rural colleges,” he added. “I’m also dedicated to representing Cochise College and our communities, bringing our experiences and needs to the forefront of national conversations.”
