Spring the Apaches

Cochise College Apaches and Scottsdale traded the lead six times on Tuesday, but the Apaches ended up on top with a 4-3 win in seven innings over Scottsdale.

The Apaches took the lead in the seventh inning and held on for the victory. A walk by Taggart Baxter scored Max Draijer and gave Cochise College the lead for good. Logan Bottrell put himself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for the Apaches. He doubled in the first and third innings and singled in the fifth inning.

Jordon West worked out of five tough spots for Cochise College Apaches. He pitched 6 1/3 innings and allowed two earned runs on four hits. West faced his most difficult moment in the fifth inning. Juan Aguilera got it done on the mound on the way to a win. He pitched two-thirds shutout innings. Aguilera struck out two, walked none and gave up no hits.

The second game was decided in the eighth inning as Cochise College fell to Scottsdale 10-6.

Luis Hidalgo racked up three RBIs on two hits for Cochise. He doubled in the fifth inning and homered in the seventh inning.

Adam De La Cruz couldn’t get it done on the bump for Cochise, taking a loss. He lasted just two-thirds of an inning, walked three, struck out none, and allowed three runs.

Cochise College scored one run of its own in the third. Cochise College Apaches scored on an RBI single by Logan Bottrell.It didn’t take long for Cochise College Apaches to respond as it scored one run of its own in the fifth. Cochise College Apaches scored on an RBI double by Hidalgo. After a quick strike from Scottsdale, Cochise College Apaches responded with two runs in the seventh. The Apaches scored on a two-run home run by Hidalgo.

After pushing across one run in the bottom of the ninth, Cochise College Apaches faced just a 10-6 deficit. A solo home run by Max Draijer gave Cochise College Apaches life. Cochise College Apaches’ Taggart Baxter struck out to end the ballgame.
