Join Cochise College, the Cochise College Foundation, and community partners as they launch the first residential construction technology home project. The ribbon-cutting event will be at 9:00 am on Thursday, August 30 at the home construction site located at 300 Block, North Second Street in Sierra Vista, Arizona.

The Arizona construction industry is booming. A shortage in Arizona’s skilled labor force has been cited as a factor in canceled construction projects, increased wages and potential growth in prefabrication. Through the Residential Construction Technology Program students will spend a year building a home as part of their curriculum. The program will also help students enter the construction industry with on-the-job training, skill development, and networking with local contractors.

When the student-constructed home is completed, it will be sold. The proceeds will be directed towards the next project. Community partners have provided the land, services, blueprints, light fixtures and funding include Castle & Cooke, Cochise County, the City of Sierra Vista, and American Southwest Credit Union.
