The Cochise College rodeo is right around the corner and set for Saturday, March 23 and Sunday, March 24 at Fort Huachuca’s Wren Arena. Presented by the college, Sierra Vista Riding Club, and Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation, the rodeo is open to the public. Advance tickets are $8 and can be purchased at Cochise College Sierra Vista and Douglas Campuses, Yardley Community Center at Fort Huachuca, Sierra Vista Safeway, Spur Western Wear, and Ace Hardware. At the gate, tickets are $10. Admission is free for children 6 and under and active duty military with ID. Visitors to the fort who are over the age of 18 and do not have a Department of Defense identification card, must obtain a visitor access badge at the Van Deman Gate Visitor Control Center prior to entering the installation.

“We encourage everyone to come out to support our athletes. Bring your family and friends to enjoy an exciting fun-filled weekend,” said Rick Smith the Cochise College men’s rodeo coach. “This event will feature contestants coming from as far away as New Mexico including other colleges from the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) Grand Canyon Region.”

Last year, the Cochise rodeo team was the leading team in the Grand Canyon Region. Sophomore Maddee Doerr from Creighton, Nebraska won the All-Around Cowgirl position and belt buckle in addition to 2018 National Reserve College Champion Goat Tyer, 2018 Grand Canyon Regional Goat Tying Champion, National Rookie Cowgirl by the NIRA, and NIRA’s Canyon Region Reserve Champion Breakaway Roper.

The rodeo performance will feature bareback riding, tie-down roping, breakaway roping, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, goat tying, team roping, barrel racing, and bull riding.
