In honor of Women’s History Month, Cochise College’s Multicultural Film Series will present the film, “On the Basis of Sex,” which depicts the challenges and rise of Ruth Bader Ginsburg (played by Felicity Jones). This biographical movie shows the struggles of a young attorney and new mother facing adversity in her fight for equal rights. When Ginsburg takes on a ground-breaking case, she knows the outcome could alter the courts’ view of gender discrimination. Stronger together, Ruth teams with her husband, Martin Ginsburg (Armie Hammer), to fight the case that catapults her into one of the most important public figures of our time.

According to an LA Times review, this film is not only a “testament to Ginsburg’s legacy as a progressive icon and a tireless champion of women’s rights but also her startling ascendancy in the public imagination, her claim to the kind of cultural prominence rarely bestowed on octogenarian Supreme Court justices.”

For the Douglas area, the film will be shown on Wednesday, March 4, at 6 p.m. in the Community Room in the Student Union Building on the Cochise College Douglas Campus.

For the Sierra Vista area, the film will be shown on Thursday, March 5, at 6 p.m. in the Horace Steele Room in the Library on the Cochise College Sierra Vista Campus.

The film is rated PG-13 and is 120 minutes long. The public is invited to this free event, and light snacks will be provided. This activity is sponsored by Cochise College’s Humanities/Fine Arts Department and the Multicultural Film Series. For more information, contact Tanya Biami at (520) 515-5316.
