DOUGLAS – Sophomore Nathan Sobey was named the Arizona Community College Athletic Association’s Player of the Week for Division I for his performances last week in the Cochise men’s basketball team’s wins over Chandler-Gilbert and South Mountain.
“Nathan had a super week of game play,” said Cochise head coach Jerry Carrillo. “He defended very well and had terrific energy on the floor as he helped lead us to two very important league wins.”
Sobey, a 6-foot-3 guard from Australia, averaged 29 points and five rebounds in the two games, which Cochise won 85-73 at home over Chandler-Gilbert and 88-72 on the road against South Mountain.
“He really had a super practice session, so it is great to see him perform so well in these games,” Carrillo said.
The Apache men are 9-2 overall and 4-1 in conference play heading into winter break. Cochise is back on the court Dec. 28 at the Phoenix Tournament, where the Apaches will face Highline, Westwind Prep and Illinois Central over three days.
