PHOENIX – The Cochise College men’s basketball team won its opening game of the Phoenix Tournament on Wednesday night, 86-61 over Highline Community College from Washington.

The Apaches held a 43-26 lead at the half and were led by sophomore Nathan Sobey with 29 points on the night. Michael Maya added 18 points, Nnamdi Ezenwa had 13 and Matt Korcheck finished with 11. Mark Simmons added nine assists.

Cochise improved to 10-2 overall this season and will continue in the tournament at 2 p.m. Thursday against Westwind Prep, a team the Apaches defeated at home, 116-108, earlier this season.
