The Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) released its All-Conference and All-Region teams.
Stephen Byard has been selected as Player of the Year, All ACCAC, and All-Region Division I First Team. Men’s Basketball Head Coach Jerry Carrillo was named the Co-Coach of the Year, sharing the honor with Charles Harral of Arizona Western. Jalun Trent was named to the All-ACCAC and All-Region Division I First Team. Tatjana Tatar was honored the All ACCAC and All-Region Division I Second Team.
Byard, a freshman from Atlantic City, N.J., led the conference in scoring at 19.1 points per game. He also topped in field goal percentage with an outstanding .670 mark. For the third straight year, a Cochise College men’s basketball player has been named ACCAC Player of the Year. Last year, Naje Smith was honored, and in 2019, Chris Whitaker.
Head Coach Jerry Carrillo finished a 9-3 overall record and 8-2 in league play heading into the regional playoffs.
Jalun Trent, a sophomore guard from Baltimore, MD., an ACCAC lead in assists, was named to the All-ACCAC and All-Region Division I First Team.
“We are very proud of the individual awards that both Jalun Trent and Stephen Byard earned. Trent really made us go both defensively and offensively. Tank-aka “Stephen” just had a monster year scoring at the rim and rebounding the ball so consistently,” said Head Coach Jerry Carrillo. “More importantly, the team improved so much since early January.”
Tatjana Tatar, a freshman guard from Toms River, New Jersey, started in all the games this year and averaged 10.9 points per game. She was the only member on the women’s basketball team to receive post-season honors. Tatar was awarded All-ACCAC and Region 1 Second Team honors.
“Tatar is a delight to coach, and we are looking forward to seeing her grow next year,” said Assistant Coach Raven Gary Williams.
