DOUGLAS – For the third straight week, a Cochise College men’s basketball player has been named the Arizona Community College Athletic Association Division I Player of the Week.

Mark Simmons is the latest Apache to earn the honor. The 6-foot-1 sophomore point guard from Tucson averaged 22.5 points per game last week in Cochise’s win over Pima, 108-93 on Wednesday, and Saturday’s thrilling 79-78 victory over rival Arizona Western.

“Mark has spearheaded and offensive attack that has been scoring a lot of points,” said Cochise head coach Jerry Carrillo. “He has done a nice job of running our offense, as we have five guys averaging double figures.”

The Apaches are riding an 11-game winning streak heading into Wednesday’s game at Mesa Community College. Cochise is 14-2 on the season and 6-1 in conference play.
