Pyrotechnic theater troupe Flam Chen will put on a dazzling public spectacle to celebrate the firing of hundreds of pots created by Cochise College ceramics students during the fourth annual Pit Fire Festival at the Douglas Campus on Thursday, Oct. 21.

The festival, scheduled for 5-9 p.m., is a showcase of live music, dance, and food. Ceramic pieces will be fired in an enormous serpentine pit on the north side of the Douglas Campus. In addition to the kick-off by Flam Chen, the blaze will be accompanied by live music by the Dylan Charles Band and Nowhere Man and a Whiskey Girl. The Cochise College Culinary Arts Department will serve soup and other items. There also will be free caricatures, a ceramics demonstration and sale by the potters of Mata Ortiz, graffiti art, an invisible circus, organic beverages and exhibits by college departments in the areas of agriculture and rodeo, art, nursing, student services, and welding.

A 20-minute documentary about the Cochise College Art Department was created around the time of last year’s pit festival and can be viewed at www.vimeo.com by searching for “Cochise College pit festival.”

The pit fire festival is free and open to the public. For more information, call (520) 417-4025. Anyone needing an accommodation in order to attend should contact the Disability Services Office, (520) 515-5337 or (520) 417-4023, at least 72 hours in advance.
