Sixteen students from the Cochise College Southeast Arizona Law Enforcement Training Academy recently completed the program and participated in a graduation ceremony at the Cochise College Douglas Campus.

Dr. J.D. Rottweiler, college president, congratulated all the graduates and thanked Sergeant Luis Hernandez, training officers, faculty and staff. In his opening remarks, Dr. Rottweiler said to the graduates, “You entered an incredibly meaningful career as a public servant. May you always find satisfaction in knowing you are serving others.”

Sergeant Luis Hernandez, the academy supervisor, recognized two individuals for the class awards. Travis Habitzreuther received the firearms and physical fitness awards. James VanSickle received the academic award for achieving a 96.74% overall.

Peyton Maxwell, one of the graduates, said he feels good and excited to be graduating. “The academy was tough, very tough but rewarding. I feel good knowing I am officially a public servant, and I can help people more now than before.”

The graduates for the Class 21-2 are Travis Habitzreuther, Cochise County Sheriff’s Office; James Van Sickle, Cochise County Sheriff’s Office; Jasen Wright, Cochise County Sheriff’s Office; Marcus Campos, Graham County Sheriff’s Office, Aliyah Ray Graham County Sheriff’s Office; Trent Brashear, Safford Police Department; Kyle Perkins, Safford Police Department; Andres Estrella, Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office; Jose Mendoza, Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office; Jeromy McGee, Sierra Vista Police Department; Robert Jackson, Sierra Vista Police Department; Peyton Maxwell, Sierra Vista Police Department, Daniel Molina, Sierra Vista Police Department; William Goodman, Sierra Vista Police Department; Michael Juan, Tohono O’odham Nation Police Department; and Eric Sudhoff, Willcox Department of Public Safety.

Michael Juan, a graduate representing the Tohono O’odham Nation Police Department, said, “Today is definitely a big accomplishment. It was not even close to easy, but we persevered and overcame all the obstacles that came our way. It is the start of a long career. I am definitely excited to get started and make a difference.”
