The Creative Writing Celebration will be Friday, April 8 and Saturday, April 9, 2022. The event brings experienced, award-winning authors, filmmakers, and publishers to the Cochise College Sierra Vista Campus to offer insights about writing and the business of publishing to aspiring writers.

“If you want to improve your writing or learn about the business of publishing, then you need to attend the Creative Writing Celebration,” said published author Alex O’Meara, director of the Celebration and Cochise College instructor. “We have authors in poetry, fiction, short stories, nonfiction, and even screenwriting who will be giving workshops so writers can work one-on-one with experts in their fields.”

 Among those who will be presenting are: 

  • Bill Carter, director of the film Miss Sarajevo and the author of three nonfiction books
  • Jessica Powers, children’s book author and publisher of Catalyst Press who, will present a workshop on the business of publishing
  •  Ahmed Yusuf, the author of three books of short stories in both English and Somali and
  • Leslie Clark, a published poet who was also a founding member of the Creative Writing Celebration more than 20 years ago

Registration fees are: 

  • Free for Cochise College students – must pre-register
  • $25 Senior/Two day Registration 
  • $29 for One Day Registration
  • $49 for Two Day Registration
