MESA — The Apache soccer team dropped a close game to Mesa Community College over the weekend, 3-2.

Talya De Leon had both goals for Cochise, the first coming off a corner kick and the second by catching the goalie off guard and punching it into the back of the net.

“We weren’t strong in defending corner kicks and free kicks, and we gave them three goals because of our lack of effort to commit in the air,” said Cochise head coach Andrea Daniels. “We have learned our lesson and will come back stronger against South Mountain and in the second half of the season.”

The Apaches host their next three games at the Douglas Campus, first against South Mountain on Saturday, then Chandler-Gilbert on Tuesday, and Glendale on Sept. 27. All home games begin at 3 p.m., and admission is free.
