The Cochise College soccer team routed Glendale last Thursday, 5-1, then fell in a tight match against Pima on Saturday, 4-3.

Against Glendale, the Gauchos scored early before Cochise answered with a goal from Lisa Christensen in the 23rd minute, leaving the teams tied at the half. After the break, Cochise hammered in four goals, first by Makenna Lehrman, then another from Christensen, one from Talya De Leon, and the last by Jessica Sueskind just before time expired.

At Pima, the Aztecs jumped on top in the 11th minute, and De Leon answered in the 21st to tie it. From there, Pima scored three in a row within just 12 minutes to pull away. Lehrman scored in the 43rd minute and Christensen scored early in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to catch Pima.

“We didn’t decide to work until the second half,” Cochise head coach Andrea Daniels said. “Once we stepped on the field the second half, we controlled the ball the entire time. We need to put 90 minutes together consistently and when we do that, we will be unstoppable.”

Cochise is 5-7-2 heading into its next game, Tuesday at Gateway. The Apaches return home to the Douglas Campus on Thursday against Paradise Valley and Oct. 9 against Phoenix. Both home games start at 3 p.m. and admission is free.
