ATLANTA, GA — Cochise College Women’s Basketball was well-represented in Atlanta, Georgia last week as Chana Paxixe and Maeva de la Fortuna Ngnawo were selected to participate in the 2023 JUCO Women’s Basketball Top 40 All-Star Game. The event was held on July 20th at the Loch and Mason Barfield Court home of Clayton State University.
Ngnawo took the court as a member of Team “Dream” which finished 0-2 in the showcase games where she finished the first game scoring 10 points with 4 rebounds, and led the team with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and 1 steal during their second game. The Cochise standout forward was selected as an NJCAA Women’s Basketball Second-Team All-American after finishing in the top five in the nation in offensive rebounds (165) during the 2022-2023 regular season. Ngnawo finished the season averaging 13.3 points per game along with a 67.2 free throw pct. and averaged 9.8 rebounds per game. Ngnawo also led the ACCAC conference in rebounds per game and finished in the top five in the conference in blocks and points scored.
Paxixe represented Cochise as part of Team “Sparks” during the All-Star showcase finishing the first game with 4 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals. At the conclusion of the All-Star event, Paxixe was awarded the Patrick Harrington “3D” Award which, according to the All-Star committee, represented Determination, Dedication, and Desire.
Both Ngnawo and Paxixe will return in the Fall for their Sophomore seasons at Cochise College.
