Admission and entertainment are free. Everyone is welcome.

Pit Fire is a celebration of the arts. The festival features live music, entertainment, art displays and performances each year. The event has become the college’s signature event and annually attracts hundreds of people from all over Cochise County and the state.

The family-friendly event will feature music by Desert Fever and Cholla. Grace Ison, a Douglas Campus student, was selected to design and create 1000 bowls for the Pit Fire festival. For a minimum contribution of $10, guests can acquire a ceramic bowl valued at $36 and fill it with a delectable soup while enjoying the festivities. All of the proceeds support the college’s art department, scholarships and clubs that participate as vendors.

At this year’s event, the talented Culinary students from the college will showcase their skills by preparing three different soups and an assortment of breads. The menu features three savory options: Dublin Coddle, Corn Chowder and Asian Chicken Noodle, complemented by an array of freshly baked delights, including Cornbread Muffins, French Rolls and Focaccia.

As part of the event, attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items, which will be donated to the Cochise Cupboard—a vital resource supporting our students. Your generosity can make a meaningful difference in combating food insecurity.

The Pit Fire lighting is scheduled to be around 7 p.m. A pit fire is an ancient method of “baking” clay that has been placed in a hole, or pit dug into the ground with a wood fire burning above, resulting in pieces covered in swirls of colors and patterns. Dry, windy and unstable weather may delay the Pit Fire Lighting.

Shortly after the fire is lit, there will be a fireworks show. Earplugs will be provided for anyone who is sensitive to loud sounds.

Please be aware many vendors accept only cash, and there are no ATMs on campus. The following are prohibited:

  • Pets (except for service animals)
  • Smoking
  • Drugs
  • Alcoholic beverages

Some guest artist endeavors were made possible thanks to a grant from the Arizona Commission on the Arts.
