Cochise College celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15. This annual observance celebrated the diversity and heritage within the college community. Students, Hispanic Heritage pinataathletes, faculty, staff, and the public came together and shared experiences.

One of the highlights of the festivities was a mariachi performed by the Nogales High School Mariachi Apache and dancers. Their spirited and heartwarming renditions of traditional Hispanic music and dancing resonated throughout the college student unions.

Later in the month, the college hosted another event with food and an assortment of fun games. A symbolic piñata, filled with  candy brought togetherness.

Daphne Tostado, an exercise science student, expressed her appreciation by saying, “Cochise College has given me great opportunities as a Hispanic student to continue my education and pursue the career I love. I am beyond blessed and thankful for all the opportunities.”

Sergio Cordova, who is studying engineering, chose Cochise College for its academic excellence and to stay close to his family in Agua Prieta and be with friends.

Pablo Garcia, a baseball athlete, considers Hispanic Heritage Month a time to “represent my culture and let others know we can grind through the obstacles and come out on top.”

Florina Giron, a women’s soccer player, feels immense pride in representing Cochise College as a Hispanic student-athlete. She said, “It is an accomplishment not many get to have.”
