DOUGLAS — The third annual Cochise College Douglas Campus Tolerance Week, held Nov. 7-9, will feature topics regarding the LGBT community, Islam and HIV/AIDS. All events will be held at the Little Theatre on Cochise College’s Douglas Campus and are open to the public.

The aim of the three-day series of events is to create open discussion about current divisive issues in society, as well as to inform the community about these issues.

Monday, Nov. 7, features Erin Russ, coordinator for Wingspan, who will speak at 11 a.m. on issues regarding the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community. Russ has been SAGA director at Wingspan since April, and she has worked to develop a speaker-training curriculum and to coordinate speaking engagements addressing transgender issues. She also has served as a board member for Tucson’s GLBT Chamber of Commerce and on the board of directors for PFLAG in Tucson.

Tuesday, Nov. 8, features Islam 101 by Azra Hussain, president of the Islamic Speakers Bureau of Arizona, beginning at 11 a.m. This presentation will introduce to a complex subject and is an attempt to explore the extraordinary range and richness of the way American Muslims live.

Wednesday, Nov. 9, features HIV/AIDS 101 at 10:45 a.m. This presentation will be led by speakers from the Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation, which is working locally with Chiricahua Community Health Centers to provide medical case management, care and services to clients in Cochise, Graham and Greenlee Counties.
