DOUGLAS — Pyrotechnic theater troupe Flam Chen will return for another performance at the fifth annual Cochise College Pit Fire Festival, held at the Douglas Campus on Thursday, Nov. 10.

The event begins at 5 p.m. and celebrates the firing of hundreds of pots created by Cochise College ceramics students. This year, attendees are invited to register their names and donate at varying contribution levels to become a “Friend of the Art Department.” In return, contributors receive a hand-made ceramic bowl in which to dish their soup or chili, freshly prepared by the college’s culinary arts department.

The festival is a showcase of live music, dance and food. Ceramic pieces will be fired in an enormous serpentine pit on the north side of campus. Chef Ken Loresch and his team of culinary arts students have created a menu of vegan tomato soup, beef chili, and chicken and dumpling soup to be served along with croutons, cornbread and brownies

In addition to Flam Chen’s production, several others artists will be on hand to perform, including Ed the Clown and the Circus of Tiny Invisibility, as well as the Wyld Vybe Belly Dance troupe. There will also be sawdust burner and twig burner demonstrations, a graffiti artist and free caricatures, along with live musical performances by Dylan Charles and the Border Crossers, Nowhere Man and Whiskey Girl, Terry Wolf and the Back Porch Swing, Mike Montoya and David Galleher.

A silent auction will accept bids until 8 p.m., with all proceeds benefiting the art department for scholarships, materials, equipment and workshops. An art sale goes on through 9 p.m., with 25 percent of all proceeds donated to the Cochise College Foundation Art Fund.
