SIERRA VISTA — The little coffee stand in the Student Union at the Sierra Vista Campus turned a year old on Wednesday, Oct. 26, and owner George Broxton III celebrated by serving $1 small drinks and inviting customers sign a commemorative collage.
Broxton’s Coffee opened last fall when its owner and namesake returned to his hometown and former college after finding his passion for coffee while working as a barista at White Dove Coffee in Flagstaff.
Since then, Broxton has become a staple of the Student Union, and tends to offer great conversation along with great coffee.
“It’s about people, it’s about coffee. In that order,” Broxton told a reporter from the Sierra Vista Herald on Wednesday in between making drinks.
Broxton graduated from Buena High School in 1994 and served in the U.S. Army before attending Cochise College and graduating with honors with an associate degree in business management in 2004.
In the future, Broxton hopes to expand his business and be able to offer a full cafe for the people of Sierra Vista, something more than the Starbucks stands within grocery stores and Cafe Sierra within the public library.
In the meantime, he’s enjoying his job making mochas, chillers, lattes and hot chocolate, along with creating new and seasonal concoctions, like the Frosted Pumpkin Mocha, Jack-O-Latte and Key Lime fruit smoothie.
Visit the Broxton’s Coffee website, become a fan on Facebook or stop by the Student Union between 7:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and until noon on Friday.
