PHOENIX — The Cochise soccer team routed Gateway on Saturday afternoon, 6-1.

The Apaches were on the board first, thanks to a goal by Talya De Leon, with an assist from Ivonne Cisneros. Cisneros scored in the 20th minute with an assist by Mariel Hundley, and it was 2-1 at the break.

In the second half, Cochise broke the game open. De Leon scored twice, Hundley scored and Carley Acosta scored. Assists went to Cisneros and Kim Cormier.

“Gateway was a great learning experience for us,” said Cochise Head Coach Andrea Daniels. “We really came out flat, with no intensity and very low work rate. Halftime gave us the opportunity to regroup, start fresh and play Cochise soccer.”

The Apaches are now 3-1 on the season heading into home games this week against Paradise Valley on Sept 5 and Phoenix College on Sept. 10. Both games begin at 7 p.m. at Douglas High School.

Admission is free to all regular-season home games.
