0923 soccer vs s mtnPHOENIX — The Cochise College women’s soccer team routed South Mountain Community College 7-1 on Saturday.

The Apaches pounded the Cougars’ goal from the beginning, scoring four unanswered goals in the first half. Talya De Leon put the first shot in the back of the net within the first minute of the game, followed by Carley Acosta, assisted by Ivonne Cisneros and Jennifer Calanche, in the sixth minute. Cisneros scored unassisted in the 10th minute, and De Leon scored again in the 24th minute with assists from Calanche and Arianna Paez.

Acosta scored again just after the halftime break, assisted by Cisneros, and De Leon scored the Apaches’ final two goals, one a penalty kick in the 52nd minute and the other assisted by Cisneros in the 75th minute. South Mountain scored on a PK in the 65th minute.

Cochise totaled 20 shots in the game and goalie Danielle Dunn made nine saves for the Apaches, who are now 7-3 on the season heading into away games at Chandler-Gilbert on Thursday and Glendale on Saturday before returning to southern Arizona for a home game against Pima on Oct. 3 at Bujalski Track & Field Complex, next to Barnes Field House on Fort Huachuca.

Admission is free to all regular-season home games.
