Douglas, AZ — When the Apaches took down Arizona Western College on Wednesday night, Head Coach Laura Hughes claimed her 100th victory at Cochise College.
In her 5th season at the helm of the Cochise College women’s basketball program, Hughes averages more wins than any other four-year stretch in school history.
Hughes broke three school records during her tenure as a head coach, including the most rebounds, the most 3-pointers, and the most wins in a season.
In the past three years, Hughes helped fifteen sophomores move up to university level basketball on scholarships.
She guided the 2011-12 Apache squad back to the Region I Playoffs. The 2012-13 Apaches finished as Region I runners-up, and at the same time, Hughes was named the ACCAC Conference Coach of the Year.
Under the guidance of Coach Hughes, numerous players have been named the All-Conference and All-Region Teams. Three players made All-Conference in 2015, including Destiny Amezquita, Te Solomon, and Arianna Anderson. Seven players have been named All-NJCAA Region I Division I since 2012. Eleven players have been named All-Arizona Community College Athletic Conference since 2013.
The Apaches are extremely proud of all the significant accomplishments Coach Laura Hughes has reached and congratulate her on her 100th victory at Cochise College.
