Cochise kicked off the Spring Break tournament Wednesday with a 17-4 rout over Pro Training of Canada, scoring 13 runs in the first inning. An RBI double by Darick Hall, an RBI single by Jayson Hicks, and a sacrifice fly by Gerardo Arzaga in the first inning and a fielder’s choice during the second inning helped Cochise put some runs on the board early. Hall finished with three RBIs on two hits for Apaches.

Pro Training managed just one hit off Apache pitcher Kade Wagner, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out six during his three innings of work.

On Thursday, Cochise defeated Seminole State 7-2 with the help of a three-run first inning. Jake Luna had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits with doubles in the sixth and seventh innings. Hall recorded the win for Cochise, allowing two runs on two walks and eight hits while striking out two in seven innings.

Later in the day, the Apaches lost to New Mexico Junior College 6-1. Steve Naemark took the loss after allowing six runs and walking three while striking out five in seven innings. Cochise scored its lone run on a sacrifice fly by Hicks in the eighth.

Friday’s morning game was a nail biter in the late innings, but Cochise held on for a 3-2 win over Western Nebraska College. Cochise starting pitcher Xavier Altamirano took a perfect game into the seventh before giving up a double. He ended up allowing just two earned runs on four hits in 8 1/3 innings, and David Estrada got the last two outs for the save. The Apaches scored all three runs in the first inning with the help of a two-run double by Jason Sanez.

In the afternoon, the Apaches fell behind early and their rally fell short in an 8-7 loss to Scottsdale. Nick Borowski took the loss on the mound for Cochise, allowing six runs and a walk while tricking out three in two innings. The Apaches scored two in the first, with RBIs by Borowski and Hall, and another in the second before Scottsdale’s six-run second. The Artichokes were up 8-3 heading into the seventh, when
