579119_10201537141688215_1749079039_nFLORENCE — The Cochise College rodeo team finished strong in two competitions at Central Arizona College over the weekend. On Saturday, the women finished second and the men third, and on Sunday, the women took first place, while the men finished fifth.

In Saturday’s rodeo, Arianna Assini finished fourth in the women’s all-around after taking sixth in the breakaway roping event and tying for third with teammate Makayla Boots in goat tying. Also scoring for Cochise in breakaway roping were Aubrey Smith in seventh and Katie Adams tied for eighth. Georgia Diez took third in barrel racing with a 17.68-second run.

For the Cochise men, Wade Kane was second and Charlie Kogianes third in saddle bronc riding. Bobby Flores finished eighth in team roping – heeler.

In Sunday’s competition, Diez won the women’s all-around with 195 points and Assini took third with 167 points. Diez finished first in barrel racing with a 17.51-second run and sixth in goat tying. Assini tied for fifth in breakaway roping and took second in goat tying. Adams finished second in breakaway roping and Boots took fifth in goat tying.

For the men, Kogianes took first in saddle bronc riding with 77 points.

The Cochise women are at the top of the Grand Canyon Region standings, in front of Central Arizona in second and New Mexico State in third. The Cochise men are fifth in the standings.

The Apaches are scheduled next to attend the University of Arizona rodeo on Saturday.
