The Cochise College Center for Lifelong Learning‘s Brown Bag Lecture Series is presented each semester at the college’s campuses and centers. Weekly free lectures and presentations offer attendees the opportunity to hear fascinating stories and learn about a wide array of topics in a no-pressure environment.
This semester, lectures are presented on Mondays at the Benson Center, every other Tuesday at the Douglas Government Center, located at 1012 N. G Ave., and Wednesdays at the Sierra Vista Campus in room 702. All lectures are from 12:10 to 1 p.m. and attendees are encouraged to bring their lunch.
Cochise College Center for Lifelong Learning winter Brown Bag Lunch presentations will offer some interesting and informative programs. Presentations are held at the Cochise College Benson Center; the Douglas Government Center and Cochise College Sierra Vista Campus, Room 702.
• “The Smithsonian Comes to Cochise County” – Monday, March 3, Benson Center
Nancy Krieski will talk about the Smithsonian Museum on Main Street Journey Stories. This is a stimulating traveling exhibit that will be on display Feb. 24 through April at various locations.
• “Alpacas in 50 Minutes or Less” – Tuesday, March 4, Douglas Government Center
Lisa Thompson, owner of Thunder Mountain Alpaca Ranch in Hereford, will introduce you to alpacas via a brief history and overview of their behavior and management. Thompson’s presentation will include hands-in-the-fleece, along with an explanation of what makes alpaca fleece so special as well as ideas for wonderful things you can make.
• “National Alliance on Mental Illness” – Wednesday, March 5, Sierra Vista Campus, room 702
Phyllis Getz, executive director of NAMI SEAZ, will discuss the work of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Tragedies like the Tucson shooting, Sandy Hook and the Naval Yard may be averted if the mentally disturbed can be identified and referred for treatment.
