IMG_9604DOUGLAS — The Cochise College baseball team swept Paradise Valley Community College on Saturday, routing the Pumas in game one 13-2 and winning the second game 5-4.

In the first game, Paradise Valley scored both runs in the top of the first inning, but Cochise scored four in the bottom of the first, two in the second, four in third and three more in the fourth on the way to a run-rule, five-inning win.

Kade Wagner earned the win for the Apaches, walking three and allowing four hits while striking out three over five innings. At the plate, Charlie Ameer was 2 for 2 with a double and a home run, and Nate Stepna was 2 for 3 with a double and three runs scored. Cochise combined for 11 hits in the game.

In game two, Cochise was down 3-2 heading into the bottom of the fourth, when the Apaches scored three runs on a solo home run by Stepna and a two-run single by Sean DeSoto that plated Louis Boyd and Darick Hall. Hall finished 3 for 4 with a walk and Stepna was 2 for 5.

Tyler Fallwell got the win for Cochise. He came on in relief for Ameer in the third and went five innings, allowing a run on two hits and three walks while striking out three.

The Apaches are 28-8 overall and 13-3 in conference games heading into Tuesday’s game at Phoenix College. Cochise returns home March 28 for a noon doubleheader against Pima. Admission is free to all regular-season home games.
