WINDOW ROCK — The Cochise College women’s rodeo team continued to dominate the Grand Canyon Region over the weekend, winning the rodeo at Navajo Tech on April 3-4. The Cochise men finished fifth.
Georgia Diez and Makayla Boots took the top two spots in the Women’s All-around. Diez took second in barrel racing and first in goat tying, while Boots finished sixth in breakaway roping and fourth in goat tying. Shyanne Summerfield finished fifth in barrel racing, and in goat tying, Bandee Tubbs finished sixth and Janey Reeves was seventh.
For the men, Jalen Joaquin finished fourth in the Men’s All-around, tying for fourth in saddle bronc riding and taking second in bull riding. Wade Kane took sixth in saddle bronc.
The Cochise women are on top of the region standings, ahead of Central Arizona College in second and New Mexico State University in third. The Cochise men are fifth in the region with two rodeos left, first at Mesalands in New Mexico on April 17-18, followed by New Mexico State on April 24-26.
