TUCUMCARI, N.M. — The Cochise College women’s rodeo team won first place at the Mesalands rodeo April 17-18, and the men finished third.
In the Women’s All-around, Janey Reeves took first, Georgia Diez finished second and Arianna Assini took sixth. Reeves finished first in breakaway roping and second goat tying; Diez took first in barrel racing and third in goat tying; and Assini finished seventh in team roping header, seventh in breakaway roping and tied for seventh in goat tying.
Also scoring points for Cochise were Makayla Boots, who took fifth in team roping header, and Shyanne Summerfield, who finished sixth in goat tying.
Jalen Joaquin took first place in the Men’s All-around. He took first place in bull riding and second in saddle bronc. Wade Kane finished sixth in saddle bronc.
The Cochise women are sitting on top of the Grand Canyon Region standings, followed by Central Arizona in second and New Mexico State University in third. The Cochise men are fourth in the region standings.
The Apaches close the regular season at NMSU in Las Cruces, N.M., on April 24-26.
