The Cochise College Music Department‘s choral and instrumental ensembles will perform spring concerts at locations across Cochise County throughout April and May.
The Cochise College Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Mike Kuhn, will perform at JR’s Bar, located at 4225 Avenida Cochise in Sierra Vista, at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 10. Relive some of your favorite Broadway moments with the Cochise College High Desert Singers, Vocalise and Note-ables as they present “In The Footlights” at 7 p.m. April 24 and 25 at Kino Hall at St. Andrew Parish in Sierra Vista. This evening of West End and Broadway showstoppers will include medleys from “H.M.S. Pinafore,” “Phantom of the Opera,” “The Sound of Music,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” “The Music Man” and “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.” Also featured will be songs from “Cats,” “Bye, Bye Birdie,” “Paint Your Wagon,” “Sweet Charity,” “The Man of La Mancha” and “West Side Story.” Seating is limited. Cochise College’s Bi-national Chorus, Women’s Ensemble, Orchestra, and Douglas Campus Ensemble will present “Springsong 2014” at 7 p.m. Wednesday April 30 at the Central School Project in Bisbee. The concert celebrates sounds from around the globe, from varying times and with an array of life-giving themes. Maestro Dieter Hennings and the Cochise College Nuevo Mundo ensemble and Bi-national Chorus will combine to present a concert at 7 p.m. May 8 at Kino Hall in Sierra Vista. Hennings is an internationally known lutenist and guitarist. He has been instrumental in commissioning new works for guitar and has appeared as a guest artist with a variety of orchestras and early music groups. In conjunction with the Mexican consulate, Cochise College presents a variety of musicians from Arizona and Sonora, along with Maestro Hennings, for “Concierto sin Fronteras” at 7 p.m. May 9 near the international gate between Agua Prieta, Sonora, and Douglas, Ariz. This goodwill concert will feature excerpts from the film score of “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” by Hans Zimmer and Eric Whitacre. This global piece represents a musical collaboration that stretches boundaries and goes beyond borders.
