COOLIDGE — The Cochise College baseball team split its doubleheader with Central Arizona College on Saturday, winning game one 2-0 and falling in game two 7-4, and heads into postseason play as the fourth seed in the Region 1 Tournament.
In the first round this week, the Apaches travel again to Central Arizona, the tournament’s top seed, for a three-game series, with single games at 2 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and, if necessary, at noon Saturday. This year, Region 1 will host the Western District Tournament, which means the top two teams from Region 1 advance to the district tournament to face the top teams from Districts 9 and 18.

In the second game, Cochise scored a run in each of the fourth and fifth innings, but Central plated three in the fifth and four more in the sixth for the win. At the plate for Cochise, Nelson was 2 for 5 with two RBIs and Sean DeSoto was 2 for 3 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored.
The split improves Cochise’s record to 32-24 overall at the end of the regular season.
