Cochise College’s rodeo program qualified five athletes for the College National Finals Rodeo, set for June 14-20 in Casper, Wyo.
The Cochise College women’s rodeo team won the Grand Canyon Region, ahead of Central Arizona in second and New Mexico State University in third. Georgia Diez, Janey Reeves, Arianna Assini and Makayla Boots finished second through fifth, respectively, in the Women’s All-around, and all four are CNFR qualified. Diez will compete in barrel racing and goat tying, Reeves in breakaway roping and goat tying, and Assini and Boots both in goat tying.
For the Cochise men’s team, Jalen Joaquin qualified for nationals in bull riding. He finished third in the region in the event and eighth in the Men’s All-around. The Cochise men finished fourth overall in the region.
In six weeks, the Cochise women will look to better their fourth-place finish at CNFR in 2014. For more information about the College National Finals Rodeo, visit www.cnfr.com.
