The Cochise College women’s and men’s basketball teams were both honored among this year’s NJCAA All-Academic Teams, awarded to programs with team GPAs above 3.00.

The Cochise women finished the 2014-15 year with a team GPA of 3.21, improving on the program’s previous best team GPA of 3.09 in 2012-13.

“To be named one of the top academic teams in the country is an honor,” said head coach Laura Hughes. “The players took a lot of pride in their academic success and worked hard to achieve this accomplishment.”

The Cochise men’s basketball team finished with a team GPA of 3.11, following a season that saw a return trip to the national tournament by the Apaches.

“We are very proud of the success we have had on and off court,” said men’s head coach Jerry Carrillo. “In 2013-14, we were the Academic Team of the Year. This year, we followed that up by finishing fourth in the nation (in team GPA) and one of only 24 teams competing in the national tournament. Its a credit to the young men in our program and the hard work assistant coach Guy Meyer puts in on campus.”
