Cochise College has designated smoking and tobacco-use areas for students, visitors and employees at its campuses and centers.
New policies permit the use of cigars, cigarettes, e-cigarettes, pipes and chewing tobacco only at specific outdoor areas on campus or within an individual’s personal vehicle. The use of these products is prohibited inside all college facilities.
“It is the policy of the college to provide employees, students and visitors with examples of healthy lifestyles, to reduce the effects of secondhand smoke and vapor to the greatest degree possible, and to assure the sanitary disposal of the by-products of smokeless tobacco,” the policy states. “Members of our campus community are empowered to respectfully inform others about the policy in an ongoing effort to enhance awareness and encourage a culture of compliance.”
Three designated tobacco-use areas on the Sierra Vista Campus are located on the west end next to the Nursing Building, behind the General Classroom/800 Building, and on the east end near the Science Building. On the Douglas Campus, areas are designated on the north end next to the Science Building, on the west end between Chiricahua Hall and Huachuca Hall, and on the south end near the library. The Benson Center’s designated area is northeast of the building.
There is no tobacco use allowed at the Willcox Center and Fort Huachuca Center because they are both located on K-12 school district grounds.
