Jordyn P.Douglas, AZ — Cochise College women’s basketball team won its sixth game in a row, beating Western Arizona 55-48 on Wednesday night.

Guard Jordyn Penniman led the way with 17 points and 3 assists. Ciara Fields finished with 10 points and 5 rebounds and went 2/3 on 3-point field goals. Forward Sophia Elenga had 11 rebounds and added 4 points, plus Coulter Bowlen, Arianna Anderson and Guadalupe Chao each had 6 points.

The key to the game was Hughes and her coaching staff made defensive adjustments at halftime. Subsequently, Cochise buckled down defensively in the second-half and out-rebounded Western Arizona 39-21, while holding them to only 35% shooting.

Cochise shared the ball well on offense, totaling 15 assists on 23 made shots to go on to shot 41% from the field.

“It was a good defensive effort,” stated Hughes, “we got stops when we needed them in the 4th, and we did a good job of staying with things.”

Cochise College  is now 19-5 for the season and 13-3 in conference play. The home stand continues this Saturday with a matchup vs. Pima College. As always, all home games are free.
