IMG_0238Scottsdale, AZ  The Cochise College Apaches came through with a big win on Wednesday night against Scottsdale Community College.

The Artichokes came out the gate playing hard and building a 13-2 lead over the Apaches. Scottsdale’s Greg Minor was able to get to the basket 10 minutes into the game.

Head Coach Jerry Carrillo said, “they came out ready to play and wanting to beat us. It was a big game for them because they were 1 game back of the fourth and final playoff spot for the Division 2 schools.”

At halftime the Artichokes led the game 41-36. Emanual Shepherd was able to keep the game close with great post play in the second-half, but Cochise couldn’t get Scottsdale’s lead down to less than 7. With 6 minutes left to play in the game, Justin Jones made three 3-point baskets in a row to bring the Apaches up 2. During the last 2 minute, Arell Hennings made big free throw to seal the game and keep the Apaches tied for 1st with Phoenix College.

With four games to go there are 5 teams that have a realistic shot at winning the ACCAC. Cochise and Phoenix sit atop at 13-5 with a meeting between the two coming up on February 17th. Arizona Western, Arizona Eastern, and South Mountain are all 1 game back at 12-6. Cochise will play in 2nd of 3 road games in a row on Saturday at South Mountain. Tip-off is at 4 p.m.
