Despite Taggart Baxter’s 3-4 performance at the plate on Tuesday, Cochise College Apaches took a 8-1 loss at the hands of Phoenix during the first game of the day.
Jordon West ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He allowed eight runs in four innings, walked four and struck out four.
Cochise College Apaches’ lone run of the ballgame came in the fifth inning on an RBI double by Baxter.
Cochise College Apaches came back and beat Phoenix in the second game of the day.
The Apaches scored five runs in the first on an RBI double by Luis Hidalgo, an RBI single by Jackson Overlund, a two-run home run by Jamori Blash, and an error.
Even though Alex Tovalin allowed five runs over eight innings he still recorded the victory. Tovalin struck out seven, walked two and gave up 10 hits. Cochise College survived Phoenix’s surge and put up four runs of its own in the second. the Apaches scored on an error, and an RBI double by Jorge Duarte. Cochise College Apaches piled on three more runs in the bottom of the sixth. A clutch error scored Overlund and Blash to open the scoring in the frame.
