SIERRA VISTA — The Cochise Community Creative Writing Celebration is now accepting submissions for its annual writing contest, which invites work in three categories: poetry, short story and memoir.

The writing contest deadline is March 2, 2015. The cost is $5 per entry and includes cash prizes for winners. First-place winners also have their work published in Mirage, Cochise College’s literary and arts magazine. For contest guidelines, visit www.cochise.edu/cwc.

To enter the writing contest, authors must also register to attend the 2015 Creative Writing Celebration, set for March 27 at the City of Sierra Vista’s Ethel Berger Center and March 28 at the Cochise College Sierra Vista Campus. This annual two-day event brings published writers in several genres, such as poetry, novels, creative nonfiction, juvenile fiction, and screenwriting, to present hands-on workshops to aspiring writers from Cochise County.

In the months leading up to the celebration, the City of Sierra Vista is offering a series of workshops on the craft elements of writing — character, voice, imagery and more. Workshops are offered the third Thursday of the months from November 2014 through March 2015 at the Sierra Vista Public Library meeting room. To register and for more information, visit www.SierraVistaAZ.gov/svlibrary.
