BISBEE — The public is invited to join the Friends of Warren Ballpark for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to dedicate the Warren Ballpark baseball and football sign sculptures, which were designed, fabricated and installed in a joint effort between the Cochise College welding and art departments, with assistance from Bisbee Unified School District maintenance staff and made possible by countless others.

The ceremony is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, prior to Bisbee High School’s homecoming game, by the baseball field grandstand.

“I like the idea of the college helping the community achieve a goal,” said Cochise welding instructor Randy Fox. “The Friends of Warren Ballpark wanted a sign to identify the ballpark and asked if we could help. Students and faculty were involved throughout the project.”

The sculptures were created to commemorate the long history of the two sports at the ballpark, which was built in 1909.

The Friends of Warren Ballpark is sponsored by the Bisbee Council on the Arts and Humanities, a non-profit organization. The Friends’ mission is to promote, restore and renovate the ballpark as a functioning community asset for the Bisbee School District and the community at large.
