DOUGLAS — The Cochise College baseball team swept its third straight doubleheader Saturday with a pair of wins over Pima Community College, 6-2 and 4-2.

Jacob Potts earned the game-one win, going 6 1/3 innings before Xavier Altamirano came on in relief for the final 2/3 inning. Potts gave up just four hits, one earned run and two walks while striking out three.

At the plate, Nate Hale went 3 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Frank Salas went 2 for 3, including a double, and Tagg Duce went 2 for 3 with a triple, a run scored and two RBIs.

In game two, the teams were tied at 1-1 after the first inning before Cochise scored in the bottom of the sixth. Pima answered in the top of the seventh, and the Apaches added two more in the bottom of the inning to secure the win.

Salas went the first six innings on the mound for the Apaches before Kevin Dorantes came on in the seventh to get the win. Duce went 3 for 4 at the plate, including a home run, and Austin Nelson went 2 for 3 with two RBIs.

With the wins, Cochise (41-11 overall, 27-7 ACCAC) continues to sit atop the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference standings with just a week of play left before the NJCAA Region I tournament.

The Apaches travel to Paradise Valley on Tuesday before returning home for the regular-season finale Saturday at noon against Central Arizona. Admission to the game on the Douglas Campus is free.
