Cochise College sophomore Kimberly Swift, vice president of leadership for the Sierra Vista Campus chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) honor society, recently was honored with the Distinguished Chapter Officer Award.
Swift, also a Coca-Cola Gold Scholar and a member of the All-Arizona Academic Team, received the honor on behalf of the Alpha Mu Zeta chapter. It was awarded at the 2010 Phi Theta Kappa Annual Convention that took place earlier this month in Orlando.
Swift is earning her second associate degree at Cochise College and plans to transfer to the University of Arizona-South to pursue a degree in elementary education.
Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society is the largest honor society in American higher education, with 1,250 chapters on college campuses in all 50 states and beyond. Approximately 100,000 students are inducted annually, and membership is based primarily upon academic achievement.
The organization offers a myriad of opportunities for scholarships, intellectual enrichment and personal development. This year, more than 400 PTK chapters competed for the society’s most coveted awards recognizing excellence in programs that promote scholarship, leadership, service and fellowship.
