The Cochise College baseball team traveled to Prescott, AZ, and played against Yavapai College on Saturday, April 10. Cochise came back home with a split in the doubleheader. In game one, the Apaches turned the ball over to freshman RHP Nate Rohlicek. Rohlicek allowed five hits and surrendered three runs over six innings of work while striking out seven. Marco Ozuna and Jose Velazquez came in to relieve Rohlicek. Ozuna got the last two outs of the game to record the save 5-3 Apaches. The Apaches offense regained the lead in the fourth inning on an RBI double by Hernan Yanez, followed by an RBI single by Javier Gutierrez. Cochise added another three runs in the top of the sixth inning, making it 5-1. Hernan Yanez led the offense with two hits.

In game two of the doubleheader Cochise couldn’t complete the sweep losing 10-5. Freshman LHP Ismail Pontiac got the start for the Apaches. Pontiac earned the loss allowing six hits and five runs over two innings of work. Cochise got on the board early but trailed throughout the rest of the ball game. The Apaches offense pushed a few runs across in the eighth and ninth, but it wasn’t enough to hold off Yavapai. Makai Desoto led the Cochise offense with a home run. Cochise is now 14-10 in conference play and will take on South Mountain Community College Tuesday, April 13.
